Cindy Loo Who Redeems Herself For The Upset Against Rival Rbybybaby In The Princess Derby
AJAX, ON–AUGUST 7, 2024–Cindy Loo Who broke well towards the inside for the winning advantage over the fortified choice Rbybybaby in the tenth edition of the $38,023 (US) Princess Derby on Wednesday at Ajax Downs.
Jockey D. Benitez, who qualified her in the trials, chose Special Spice for the finals. J. B. Botello got the leg up aboard Cindy Loo Who for his second victory on the three-year-old filly.
"She broke so well from the gate and was in front the entire trip. I saw Rbybybaby was coming and thought, boy, she is close," commented Botello.
Rbybybaby defeated Cindy Loo Who in the trials for the Princess Derby and in the QROOI Open Derby finals earlier this season, where she placed second. Today, the daughter of Bodacious Dash decided to redeem herself with a gate-to-wire victory over her rival in :17.852 seconds, equaling a 93 speed index. The upset paid paid $16.10 on 7-1 odds.

Cindy Loo Who was a $4,500 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale graduate in 2023. The current owner, Robert Bailey, purchased her over the winter.
Bailey said, " It was absolutely money well spent, and it's been a lot of fun. We hope to be back in the winner's circle soon."
The $15,209 winner's share of the purse increased Cindy Loo Who's earnings to $29,851. She only had two starts in 2023 and didn't break her maiden until May of this year. The Princess Derby was her first stakes victory, improving her career record to three wins from nine starts.
"We just had a couple of bad starts and some rainy days before," Bailey expressed. "She just didn't get out good in the trials, but she got out well in this one and never looked back."
Bobby Simmons bred Cindy Loo, Who in New Mexico, out of the Chicks Beduino stakes-placed mare One Chick Two Chick, who is also the dam of stakes winners Fighting City Hall and Streakazoid.
Heavy favorite Rbybybaby, ridden by Carly Furlonger, followed Cindy Loo Who for second place by a neck. Scott Reid conditions the daughter of Hez Our Secret, who has four wins from nine starts and $27,921 in the bank.
Owner John Wilson purchased Rbybybaby from breeders Bob and Deanna Williams for $20,000 in the 2023 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. She was bred in Washington out of Rmiss Perry by Mr Jess Perry.
Tcb Stormy Episode, piloted by Brian Bell, finished in third, 3/4-lengths behind the top two. The brown filly has yet to break her maiden with a record of 0-3-3 from nine starts and $14,881 in earnings.
Tavares saddled the daughter of Bp Wagon Trainer for owner Jennifer Zuroski, who paid $5,500 for her in last year's Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. Salvador Flores bred Tcb Stormy Episode out of Mcm Fast Episode by Heza Fast Dash in Louisiana.
Lady Alice, Expediant and Special Spice complete the order of finish. Daphnee, Pretty Maticall, Secret Ivory Girl and Snow Magically Sweet were scratched.
